Hidden gems
A huge personal favourite is Dog Soldiers by Neil Marshall.
I won't give much away as it deserves to be enjoyed without spoilers, but it's a great blend of dark humour and practical effects and has a wonderful cast that fit the film perfectly.
Re: Hidden gems
I have recently stumbled upon a gritty tv show called The North Water. It's a five part miniseries based on a novel of the same name. Imo, much better show than critically acclaimed first season of The Terror, with somewhat similar theme. Key words: whaling, survival, murder mystery, brutality, human nature.
Movies related, one should always recommend and spread the word about Sideways.
Re: Hidden gems
Excellent recommendations so far!
I have been watching a few that might not be too unknown, but worth mentioning for sure:
Slow Horses
Widow's Bay
Ponies
Ponies was really entertaining, surprisingly so!
Re: Hidden gems
Its not completely unknown, but also not something everyone knows about. Mr. Inbetween, a Australian show about a gun/muscle for hire. Its only 3 short seasons, but its one of those things that leave you wanting more.

Oh, my wife has been watching that one, she seemed to really like it and got some positive reviews actually! But agreed, not also super known.

In case your wife doesn't know, the series is based on a indie film, made by the same guy, with a 5000 Australian Dollaridoo budget. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Magician_(2005_film)
If she liked the tv-show, the movie is worth the watch, though should make it clear that its been made with a small budget and I think most of the budget went into car rental or something ![]()
Re: Hidden gems
She didn't know about that one, so we might take a look, defo sounds interesting, especially considering the budget ![]()
Re: Hidden gems
Ok, now added in the download queue:
Dog Soldiers
The North Water
The Magician
Another one that is my absolute favourite when it comes to movies is Troll Hunter (Trolljegeren), such a fun Norwegian gem.
