So, I did a thing... (ForumBot is born!)

We have an amazing community of wonderful people who's quite active on the IRC server.
We also have a wonderful forum that's... not quite as active.

So, I had this idea over the weekend and, after a bit of tinkering and a bit of swearing, I'm proud to present you... ForumBot!

Now, "what does it do", you ask me? Well, my hypothetical friend -- it does one thing, and one thing only:

Whenever there's a new post on the forum, be it a new topic or a reply, it'll send an alert on the #lobby on IRC.

Neat, no?

I made some tests last night and it seems to be working.

Of course, as soon as I try to put it online on the main channel, it'll crash. That comes without saying.

So, sorry in advance for the upcoming noise on the #lobby.

So, results of this quick experiment:

• Turns out Sopel (the bot engine) comes preloaded with some modules, and the bot was reacting to messages on #lobby. Oops.

• I was unaware of the IRC bot policy. This experiment has been paused for the time being.

Adding to rdlmda's update, #forum-feed channel has been suggested as a home for the bot.

Yup.

After talking things out with the admins and #lobby regulars, the bot now sits quietly at #forum-feed, reacts to no commands or messages, and sends only forum updates.
